My Rating:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars

Summary

From America’s most beloved superstar and its greatest storyteller—a thriller about a young singer/songwriter on the rise and on the run, and determined to do whatever it takes to survive.

Every song tells a story.

She’s a star on the rise, singing about the hard life behind her.

She’s also on the run. Find a future, lose a past.

Nashville is where she’s come to claim her destiny. It’s also where the darkness she’s fled might find her. And destroy her.

Run, Rose, Run is a novel glittering with danger and desire—a story that only America’s #1 most beloved entertainer and its #1 bestselling author could have created.

My Thoughts

Okay so first off I want to say I’m a HUGE Dolly Parton fan and looked forward to this book and had it preordered for months. I listened to the album and was so excited for a thriller - but after reading this book can hardly call it a “thriller”. It’s more of a contemporary fiction about a girl’s story of making it as a country star. It does have a little bit of a mystery aspect and that only really comes into play at the very end. I did think the writing was good and the story was interesting. There is clearly a character Dolly based off herself which made me laugh throughout the book. There’s also a bit of romance to the story. I really, really, really wanted to love this book but sadly I didn’t have a problem setting it down in-between reads. It didn’t have a hook or a grabbing aspect to it for me but was a good contemporary fiction book. If you like Dolly I would definitely say give it a try - but don’t expect it to be a thriller that gives you big twists and turns.
